A CALL TO NATURE

Here’s what’s currently considered very “hot” in owl social circles.
And no, it isn’t a catchphrase or a mobile app.

Try to contain your excitement.
It’s trees.

Yes. Those tall green things you occasionally notice while rushing somewhere important. To be fair, trees have been fashionable among owls for… well, always.

We tend to gather around our favorites. Perch. Observe. Nap. Based on my findings, I’ve come to the conclusion that you humans are experiencing a noticeable lack of tree-based engagement. Which feels like an odd choice, considering how many of them you’re standing near at any given moment.

It’s not just trees, of course. From what I’ve seen, many of you don’t spend much time outside at all.

Are you allergic to grass?
This is not an accusation. I’m genuinely curious.

I understand that owls and humans are wired differently, but it does appear that modern humans have drifted a bit from the world they live in. There’s a lot of chasing happening; money, status, tiny glowing rewards. None of it seems to sit very well with the soul. In fact, it appears to cause quite a bit of discomfort.

You are, by most measurements, an intelligent species (you’re fairly high on the food chain last I checked). Still, the level of disconnection from nature is puzzling. Your ancestors managed quite well in the outdoors.

I don’t blame you. You didn’t ask for all this. Entire industries are designed to keep you distracted and dissatisfied. It’s a lot for one species to manage.

So what’s the solution?
Obviously, throw all your technology into the nearest ravine and move to the mountains.

…No?

Very well. A gentler option would be to step outside now and then. Take a walk. Breathe actual air. Let the natural world remind you that it’s still here, patiently waiting.

Spend some time with the trees. Hug one if you’d like. This isn’t a protest.
It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement.
