There’s something magical about that first ray of sunlight creeping over your feathers and giving you the sense that the whole universe is acknowledging your presence in its own quiet way. It doesn’t feel like just being hit with light; it feels like some type of gentle hum of energy. Like the universe is saying, “Hey, I’ve noticed you.” (It’s a cosmic hug.)
As I sit here watching you humans from my perch, I’ve come to realize that many of you have your own solar people. Not the loud, bright, and often obnoxious types that yell out “Good Morning!” with the enthusiasm of a drumline.
Those aren’t suns; those are hazards. I’m talking about the rarer, quieter type; the ones that really see you with their hearts rather than their eyes.
This is where things get interesting. The Solar People see you as better versions of yourself than you actually are right now. When they look at a grumpy, matted mess of a bird such as myself and say, “What a magnificent, wise creature,” Meanwhile, I’m just trying to scratch an itch I can’t quite reach.
And yet, this is precisely how it works:
When someone loves you without condition, their heart becomes a filter for how they perceive you. They don’t see you as the slacker who forgot to pay his electric bill or had cereal for dinner…again. Instead, they see the Premium Edition of you. And because they treat you like that version, you will eventually become that version. That’s some pretty cool emotional magic, and I admire it greatly.
Solar People are few and far between. They’re the genuine rays of sunshine. They’re grandparents who treat your finger-paintings like Picassos. Friends who see potential in you when you’re nothing but a puddle.
They’re not just optimistic. They’re nourishing.
They don’t demand you shine brightly in return. They give off their own light simply because they love you. Even when you have none to give back. Especially then.
If you have one of these Solar People in your life, someone who loves you with an oversized, unrealistic, and beautiful heart, hang onto them. Don’t lose them.
Because when the cold long winters stretch a little too far, they’re the ones that keep your soul from freezing.
